Marion Taber Byers
UWCM President 1927-1932
By Donna Jensen on behalf of the Centenary Committee
According to The First Forty Years, McGill graduate Mrs. Archie F. Byers (née Marion Taber) became the first president of the Club and helped mentor many succeeding presidents.
Beside her graduating picture in the McGill 1905 yearbook (below), a young and feisty Marion (B.A.) writes about herself “She would stuff an alligator or pickle a lizard with any apothecary’s wife in town.”

Joyce writes that Marion had “a keen intellect, integrity of thought, charm of personality and sound judgment and good business sense.” (The First Forty Years, Catherine H. Joyce, p. 23)
In Susan Button’s short biography of Octavia Grace Ritchie, we learn of the “Donaldas” that were in the 1888 graduating class of which Taber was also president.
