Charitable Foundation

The UWCM Foundation is a registered charity that performs the charitable activities of the members of the UWCM.

Established on April 15th, 1985, the UWCM Public Foundation awards education grants to assist mature women students who have been accepted into a full-time undergraduate program at Concordia University and to single mothers who are advancing their post-secondary education in the Project Chance program. It also supports the following charities with monies every year: Atwater Library, Auberge Madeleine, Auberge Transition, Chez Doris, Auberge Shalom pour Femmes, Montreal Children’s Library, Native Women’s Shelter, Old Brewery Mission, and Tyndale St. George’s Community Centre. Monies to fund the Foundation come from donations from members and others for whom charitable receipts will be issued.

2013-2014 Financial Report

The annual fundraiser on April 15 was a social and financial success, with about 60 men and women attending. The evening began with Alex and Levi, a jazz duo from McGill University, playing a festive sax and bass for the cocktail hour, sponsored largely by a donation from Lauretta Alexander. The live auction, called by Roxane Stanners in her inimitable crowdpleasing way, raised $2,585 with only seven items. A masterful auction catalog was devised and designed by Suzanne Crawford. The Chinese and silent auctions together fetched a similar amount so, with donations since January 1, an estimated total of well over $9,000 was raised to date…and you still have time to send in your donation. We are especially grateful to Evey Crawford Renzi (on the eve of her 16th birthday) and Alexa Papanastasiou who expertly handled the Chinese-auction distribution as called out by Suzanne Crawford. Special mention for the floral centrepieces (a dozen roses each in beautiful vases) goes to Dominique Racanelli. These were sold at evening’s end raising $220 more. Notable thanks to Anelia Wright, who solicited many excellent auction items from Charton Hobbs, Westmount shops, and personal and corporate donors. The prize draw for cash donors was won by our treasurer Leah Trineer, who worked all evening on the desk and will soon be sending out tax receipts for donations. Sincere thanks also to all those not named who contributed time and effort and valuable auction items to make the evening a major success. Please email any photos of the evening (which we hope to include in the June newsletter) to me.     Gratefully, Elizabeth Wirth Foundation President
